Today, July 24th, is the 25th anniversary of the “Pine Tar Game” between the Yankees and Royals. The Yankees were leading the Royals 4-3 when Kansas City slugger George Brett blasted a 2-run homer off New York closer Rich “Goose” Gossage to give the Royals a 5-4 lead. The national publication of amateur baseball, Baseball America, announced the Mattingly Beast Award Winners for May. They are Eric Hosmer, Tim Beckham, Jaff Decker, and Kyle Beverly. The key to success in any athletic activity is to be balanced. When you are balanced, you have control of your body and can perform your best. In hitting, you want to take a balanced stance. A balanced stance allows you to wait longer on the ball — particularly on offspeed pitches — and gives you a good base for your swing.
